The Fishing
Brufoss Fishing provides 12 kilometres (8 miles) double bank fishing and is regarded as the best beat on the Numedal River for classic fly fishing.  Also available  is a good number of more typical and suitable spinning pools.  On average, the Brufoss Fishing accounts for around 15% of the river’s total catches.   A restricted number of rods are accommodated to fish different zones, fly and spinning. A good rota system is in place to allow all anglers to experience different settings enabling them to try out different fly and spinning zones.

The Brufoss Fishing, some 60 kilometres (35 miles) above the river mouth, normally see the first salmon of the season around mid-summer (23/24 June) with the best fishing usually from mid-July onwards.  The season ends on 31 August.  The total annual catches of the Brufoss Fishing is in the range of 340 to 430 salmon per season since 2005 and with an average weight close to 5.0 kilos. (12.0 lbs.).

Nice water in the fly only zone

The Brufoss Fishing’s stretch is blessed with some outstanding fly-fishing water, combined with good holding pools where spinning is a more appropriate method.  Arne, the fisheries manager, is more than happy to point out a selection of ‘hot-spots’ to any new visitor and also to remind previous ones about changes to the river conditions.

During the latter part of the season there are good opportunities for sea trout fishing. In addition you can fish for brown trout in the upper parts of the river and local lakes.

The changeover will normally take place on a Sunday.
